Oregon Ducks football beats Arizona Wildcats 34-6: Live updates recap, highlights


EUGENE — We were live from Autzen Stadium, where the No. 6 Oregon Ducks (9-1, 7-0 Pac-12) beat Arizona 34-6 on Saturday night to clinch the Pac-12 North title.

The Wildcats fall to 4-6 and 2-5 in Pac-12 play.


— The Wildcats move into Ducks territory with less than 2 minutes to play. Then the Ducks sack Grant Gunnell. Arizona takes a timeout with 1:27 to play. Gunnell throws incomplete, and it’s third and 13 for Arizona. He gets sacked again, and it’s fourth and long with less than a minute to play. He throws complete, but it’s short. The Ducks take over on downs. They’ll kneel it once and the game will be over. Oregon will win it 34-6. The Ducks clinch the Pac-12 North title and remain perfect in conference play at 7-0 (9-1 overall).

— The Ducks turn their attention toward draining the clock. They call timeout before facing a third and 11 with 2:38 to play. The run goes to Travis Dye, and it’s fourth and five for Oregon. The Ducks punt it and Arizona takes over at its 31-yard line with 2:19 to go.

— J.J. Taylor is up to 74 yards on 17 carries for Arizona. The Wildcats drive down to the Oregon 31, then go for it on fourth and one. Grant Gunnell’s pass wobbles and falls incomplete, but there’s a flag for pass interference against the Ducks. Two plays later, Gunnell is sacked by Kayvon Thibodeaux. Bryson Young is shaken up for Oregon, and the Wildcats will face third down after the injury timeout. Taylor is stopped for a minimal gain, so on fourth and five, Arizona goes for it. It’s a pass to Taylor, and he’s stopped short, giving the Ducks the ball back with 5:34 to go.

— Justin Herbert to Darrian Felix for 4 yards. Travis Dye runs for 5 and 4 and a first down. Herbert to Jaylon Redd for 6. Redd takes a screen 33 yards. Travis Dye runs for 3 then Herbert flips a screen to Dye and he goes 33 yards for a score. Cam Lewis misses the PAT. Oregon 34, Arizona 6. 10:02

— Khalil Tate pas to J.J. Taylor for no gain and Taylor runs for 5.

— Darrian Felix runs for 11, 9 and 4. Justin Herbert runs for 3. Oregon punts and gets a first down via penaty for running into the kicker. Ducks nearly downed it at the 2 anyway. Travis Dye runs for 4, 7 and no gain. Justin Herbert pass incomplete. Ducks go for it on fourth-and-10 at UA 29 and Herbert is intercepted by Scottie Young, returned to UA 48.

— Thomas Graham Jr. nearly intercepts Khalil Tate. Gary Brightwell runs for 10 and 4. Incomplete pass and Tate runs for 2. Punt fumbled by Jevon Holland and recovered by Brady Breeze.

— Travis Dye with runs of 4, 4 and 9 yards, nice blocking by Oregon OL, which has Dallas Warmack back at right guard. Justin Herbert connects with Spencer Webb for 24-yard touchdown. Oregon 28 Arizona 6 7:32

— Khalil Tate runs for 6. J.J. Taylor runs for 3 and then 2 and a first down. Kayvon Thibodeaux with a big tackle for loss. Taylor runs for 2. Tate can’t handle the snap and Arizona to punt to its own 41.

— Oregon goes three-and-out and punts to Arizona 5.

— Arizona goes three-and-out and its punt goes out at own 45.


— Khalil Tate 15-yard pass. Incomplete and runs for no gain. Tate complete to J.J. Taylor to the UO 27. Tate to Taylor for 9 yards – reviewed and respotted for 3 yard gain to UO 24. Arizona adds 42-yard FG. Oregon 21 Arizona 6.

— CJ Verdell bursts for 12 yards, comes out with right hand/forearm injury. Justin Herbert sacked. Herbert pass to Juwan Johnson for 2 yards, pass to Spencer Webb incomplete. Punt to Arizona 22. Refs call penalty on receiving team, but then flip it to Oregon. Absurd errors back-to-back weeks by Pac-12 refs but this week they catch it before it plays out.

— 47-yard kickoff return by J.J. Taylor and penalty for late hit gives Arizona the ball at UO 38. Khalil Tate pass to Taylor for 13 yards. Taylor runs for 5 and 12 to the UO 8. Tate 2 incomplete passes with offsetting unsportsmanlikes on Drew Dixon and Thomas Graham Jr. Arizona kicks 38-yard field goal. Oregon 21 Arizona 3 2:56

— Justin Herbert sacked. Herbert passes to Bryan Addison for 11 yards. Herbert to Juwan Johnson for 13 yards and first down. Incomplete pass for Johnson. CJ Verdell runs for 4. — Arizona punt goes just 28 yards to own 45.


— Penalties both ways on Arizona’s final drive of the quarter, Wildcats facing fourth-and-16 from own 17.

— Penei Sewell back at left tackle, Brady Aiello moves to right guard. Justin Herbert on third-and-11 connects with Juwan Johnson for 27 yards. Herbert to Josh Delgado for 16 yards to Arizona 34. CJ Verdell runs for 7 and gets sick on the field. Justin Herbert completes passes to Spencer Webb (3 yards), Johnny Johnson III (4) and Mycah Pittman (11), who suffers a right wrist injury.
