Rutgers football player arrested on charges of attempted double-murder

A Rutgers football player was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted double-murder. Izaia Bullock, a junior linebacker, was dismissed from the program and is being held in a New Jersey county jail, per reports.

Bullock, 22, is accused of intending to murder two members of a friend’s family. The targets were not injured, per NJ.com, and they were described as having no affiliation with the university.

Bullock was charged with two counts of attempted murder in the first degree and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree. The Middlesex County (N.J.) Prosecutor’s Office announced (via Yahoo Sports) that a joint investigation with Rutgers police determined that on Monday the former player “initiated a plot to murder the family members of an acquaintance.”

Further details of the alleged plot were not immediately made available. Rutgers Coach Chris Ash declined to comment after Tuesday’s practice, according to reports.

Bullock, per reports, played high school football in Linden, N.J., about 20 miles from Rutgers. He then enrolled in a junior college-like program before walking on with the Scarlet Knights in 2017.

Rutgers’s football team was previously beset with legal issues in August, when eight of its players were accused of having been involved in a credit card scam. Four of those players were suspended, while the others were either dismissed or were granted their releases from the program, and the case was referred to a grand jury earlier this month.

The Scarlet Knights are 1-7 this season, including an 0-5 mark in Big Ten play.
