Staples’ football coach Treglia resigns to be closer to New York home

Staples football coach Phil Treglia has resigned.

Confirmed by Staples athletic director Marty Lisevick, Treglia resigned so he could pursue other professional opportunities closer to his home in the New York area.

Treglia leaves the Wreckers’ football program in fine shape.

Staples was 7-3 in the FCIAC East Division last season. The Wreckers finsished third behind St. Joseph and Darien.

Staples lost to Darien, St. Joseph (17-14 in the rain) and Greenwich (29-0 on Thanksgiving Day). St. Joseph won the Class M state title while Greenwich reigned as FCIAC and Class LL champion last season.

Staples finished No. 10 in the Class LL rankings to just miss the LL eight-team playoff bracket.
